Just a few minutes northwest of Wissembourg is a little village called Bobenthal which is on the German side of the border. It is thought that Jacob could have been born here, lived here, and/or worked here prior to claiming his inheritance and moving on. Bobenthal is a small village situated at the base of mountains. It reminded me a lot of Leavenworth, WA in terms of the surrounding land. I would imagine that farming and logging were the main industries at the time. Bobenthal has a cute little Catholic church on the main, pretty much only, road through town.
